OK, so you've never been waxed before and naturally you have a few questions.
Here are the top questions I get asked before clients come in for a wax service & my best answers...I hope this helps❤️
Q: How long does my hair have to be to get waxed?
A: I recommend letting it grow for at least 2 weeks, 3 weeks is ideal, if you can wait that long.
It should be at least about 1/4 inch in length.
Q: Is there any way to prepare my skin before getting waxed?
A: Exfoliate and moisturize!
Exfoliate the day before your appointment, you don't need to the day of, so as not to possibly irritate your skin.
I suggest eating a banana, drinking apple juice & taking 2-3 Ibuprofen 30-60 minutes prior to your appointment to alleviate any potential discomfort.
Q: Does getting waxed hurt?
A: Well, most people wouldn't say it feels good, but it's also not the worst experience either.
The level of discomfort depends on the person getting waxed. Everyone's pain tolerance is different but it's not the worst experience you will ever have. 9 out of 10 people say "that wasn't so bad" immediately after.
Plus, I speed wax so it's all over before you know it ;-)
Q: Is there anything I should NOT do before getting waxed?
A: I would avoid consuming alcohol (or drugs if you use them) A glass of wine is ok but remember it will thin your blood and your skin could tear. I would wait until after your appointment to have a drink, or 2.
You also want to avoid Retin-A types of topical products that thin the top layers of skin & will make you prone to skin tearing.
Do NOT wax after having a chemical peel or taking any types of blood thinners.
Do NOT go tanning 48hrs before or after your wax, this will subject you to irritation, sensitivity & a possible really bad sunburn.
Q: When is a good time to get waxed?
A: For women I say to try to schedule your Brazilian (and/or) body waxing appointments right after the end of your menstrual cycle.
For example, if it started on the 1st of the month, I would come in on the 8th, or as soon as it ends.
This is because you are naturally most sensitive during your cycle but not when it ends. Again, this varies from person to person so be mindful.
Q: How should I care for my skin after getting waxed?
A: The day of I would leave it be. If it's your first time, you will want to let your skin adjust and breathe.
After 24-48hrs, I'd say it's safe to exfoliate in the shower & moisturize.
I recommend using my Ingrown Hair Scrub™ in the shower followed by my Ingrown Hair Serum™ daily for best results.
Q: How often should I wax?
A: Every 3-4 weeks is best. Your hair grows in a cycle of 3, so the hair you see come up after you wax is not the hair you just waxed and then there's a hair under that hair. It takes time for everything to even out.
You will notice your hair getting thinner and less will grow.
Consistent appointments will yield faster results.
